Dr. Buthainah Al-Shunnar

The only American Board Certified UAE plastic surgeon is Dr. Buthainah Al Shunnar, founder and director of the Al Shunnar Plastic Surgery clinic in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She is the first female Emirati plastic surgeon. Dr. Al Shunnar has a wealth of experience in non-invasive anti-aging treatments like Botox, derma fillers, and platelet-rich plasma in addition to breast surgery, breast cancer reconstruction, body contouring, aesthetic facial surgery, hand surgery, and microsurgery (PRP). Dr. Al Shunnar completed her five years of general surgery training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and the George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C., where she was also elected to the national medical honour society Alpha Omega Alpha. She received her medical degree with honours from the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland, in 1991. At the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, she subsequently finished her training in plastic surgery. Following her training, Dr. Al Shunnar worked for three years as a consultant plastic surgeon in a private practise in York, Pennsylvania, where she also provided reconstructive care for a significant trauma centre. She also held a teaching and mentoring position at Hershey Medical College where she worked with residents and fellows. After that, she went back to the Middle East where she accepted a two-year position as a consultant plastic surgeon at Sheikh Khalifa Medical Center in Abu Dhabi. She opened her own practise in Dubai in 2005, specialising in anti-aging treatments, permanent makeup, skin care, and both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.She participates actively in the John Hopkins Medical & Surgical Association, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
